North-West University Hosts Public Lecture to Mark International Day of Families
The North-West University Kano, through its Centre for Gender Studies and Family Development, in collaboration with the International Institute of Islamic Thought, organized a one-day public lecture to commemorate the International Day of Families.
The event, which was held at North-West University Kano, brought together academics, Islamic scholars, students, and members of the public to discuss the importance of strong family values and their role in national development.
Delivering a lecture titled “Family Stability as a Tool for National Development,” Prof. Aisha Garba Ahmad emphasized that peaceful and stable families are essential for societal progress, moral upbringing, and sustainable national growth. She stressed the need for parents and guardians to uphold discipline, unity, and proper guidance within the family system.
Another presentation was delivered by Dr. Rukayya Hamisu Muhammad, while Prof. Aisha Abdul Isma’il presented a paper on “Parenting in Modern Society.” The speakers highlighted the challenges facing modern families, especially in the digital age, and encouraged parents to pay closer attention to the moral and educational upbringing of their children.
Islamic scholar Shaikh Umar Sani Fagge also delivered a lecture during the program, where he spoke on the importance of family values, mutual respect, and religious guidance in building responsible communities.
Speaking at the occasion, the Vice Chancellor of North-West University Kano, Prof. Amina Salihi Bayero, commended the organizers for putting together a timely and impactful program aimed at strengthening family values and promoting societal development.
Also speaking, Dr. Sa’id Ahmad Dukawa urged participants to make proper use of the knowledge and lessons gained during the lectures in order to promote peaceful homes and responsible parenting within society.
The event concluded with calls for continuous public enlightenment on family matters, moral values, and parenting responsibilities as vital components for national peace and development.
