NAWOJ KANO TAKES THE LEAD – MAKING IMPACT AT ICONICTIMES GBV WORKSHOP
The Chairperson of NAWOJ Kano State Chapter, Comrade Sayyida Bahijja Mallam Kabara, pledged commitment to ethical and responsible reporting at the IconicTimes Media Initiative training on “Breaking the Silence: Reporting for Change” – Sensitive Reportage on Gender Based Violence, held at Iconic Open University, Gwarzo Road, Kano.

The training was hosted by the Editor-in-Chief of IconicTimes, Aisha Ismail Ahmad, who delivered a powerful presentation on avoiding victim_blaming, harmful stereotypes and discrimination against survivors and the accused. She emphasized the need to protect individual rights before the law finds anyone guilty, and to promote accountability, justice and positive social change through ethical journalism.

Represented at the event, NAWOJ Kano highlighted key activities: marking the 16 Days of Activism, school sensitization on menstrual hygiene and child rights, radio programs on women and children, capacity building for upcoming women journalists, and strategic partnerships with Ministry of Women Affairs, UNICEF Kano, AMG Foundation, IIIT, TAFTA, NHRC and others.

A major highlight was the strong commitment by Her Lordship, Rtd. Chief Magistrate Hajiya Salma Dambappa, who pledged to work closely with journalists in interpreting the legal framework on GBV cases. Her Lordship emphasized the need for synergy between the bench and the media to ensure justice for survivors.

NAWOJ Kano welcomes these commitments and remains committed to survivor-centred, ethical and developmental journalism, and will continue to use its pen and voice to protect women, girls and children.
